Grade 4 News
November
November
October seemed to fly by for our busy grade 4 classes. From attending Mary Poppins to Black and Orange Day we sure have been making memories and enjoying many learning opportunities.
Board wide, all schools are using Edsby as the main means for communication, aside from agendas and phone calls. Parents need to provide the office with an email and then be sent an invitation from the office to activate your account. Teachers will not be able to use Remind or Weebly in the near future so we encourage you to get connected on Edsby ASAP.
Progress reports go home on Monday, November 12th and parent-teacher conferences will be on Thursday, November 15th. You can schedule a meeting time on Edsby or call the office to book.
Literacy:
We are starting a new Literacy theme called Amazing Places. This unit ties in nicely with our Social Studies unit on Canada. Students will look at a variety of fiction and non-fiction text that highlight amazing places within Canada. Later in the month, students will wrap up the unit with a research project on a provincial or national park of their choice. More information will be sent home in the coming weeks.
At Home Reading Program:
Our "At Home Reading" assignment is a collage Book Report. Students should have selected a chapter book of their choice to read for November and then create a collage that shows key aspects of the book. Information will be sent home this week about this assignment. DUE DATE: November 28th.
Math:
This week we are wrapping up Unit 2. We will have a test on Subtraction on Thursday, November 8th. Then, we are moving on to Unit 3: Geometry.
Learning Goals:
- Construct congruent figures
- measure angles
- sort and classify figures
- identify similar figures
- explore solids
- build skeletons
Other Curriculum Highlights:
Social Studies: Physical Regions of Canada
Drama: Mime
Phys. Ed: Volleyball, Collaborative Games
